Protecting your hair from heat damage is essential to prevent dehydration and breakage. Heat weakens the hair by making the cuticle, or protective layer, dry, rigid and brittle. This leaves your hair susceptible to breakage. Here are a few things you can do to protect your hair.
Protect by Strengthening
Using a product that strengthens and helps your hair maintain moisture will protect against heat damage. I recommend using Caviar Styling Spray by Alterna. It’s infused with nutrient activating enzymes to help maintain vital moisture levels in your hair. It also helps stimulate protein production, which is what keeps your hair strong and breakage-free.
Repair
If you feel you may already have some damage, there are some great products out there to help. A leave-in conditioning treatment can be applied on wet hair before styling. Staying Alive by Kevin Murphy is one of my favorite leave-in conditioners. It helps repair damage and strengthens with silk proteins. It also contains Iceland moss, a natural moisturizer that makes the hair super shiny.
Re-hydrate
When shampooing and styling on a regular basis, your hair will lose a lot of the natural oils that condition and moisturize. If your hair is feeling dry, try using a conditioning treatment like Kevin Murphy Born Again about once a week.
It’s also a great idea to make an appointment for a professional conditioning treatment. We can analyze your hair and determine the best possible treatment for your hair type. Not only is it super healthy for your hair, but also relaxing. Who doesn’t love getting their hair shampooed, conditioned and styled? You’ll love how soft and shiny your hair feels afterwards.
