Greek Tragedy Meets Seattle

Go see the Greek Classic: MEDEA

After being left by her husband, Jason, for another woman, Medea feels her vows have been betrayed. Her revenge is met with apathy and acceptance from the chorus until it is too late…
It is this underlying theme of revenge that has given the play it’s timeless, seductive appeal. It is a revenge fantasy, and like the Chorus, we watch Medea with a mixture of horror and excitement as her fantasy becomes a reality. What we see is not a story of female liberation, but a war between the sexes in which all emerge scarred; no one is the hero, no one is the victim.
We have, in Medea, an opportunity to examine how easily passion can manifest into rage; the fine line we walk between greatness and pride. For these reasons, Theatre Machine stages this classic Greek tragedy and asks the audience to decide for themselves:

Is Medea a feminist heroine or the complete antithesis of?

Locks of Love Transformation

D’Arcy’s client Colette came in and wanted a hair makeover. She was looking for a hip short style and wanted to donate as much hair as possible to a cancer patient. Using some pictures that she brought as inspiration, D’Arcy was able to craft an awesome short cut that was both stylish and easy to maintain. Here is the before and after. Thanks Colette!

Thank You Claudia!

Here is our most recent review on Yelp

After a long series of botched haircuts and dye jobs both at home and in salons, I realized I probably wouldn’t find good hair unless I travelled a bit. I found Emerson Salon by googling “Seattle” and “best hair salon.” I made an appointment with Lancer based on reviews and also the salon blog (check it out, it is great!) He sounded very knowledgeable, and I knew he’d have an answer for my hair.

On haircut day, I travelled two hours to the salon. It was absolutely worth it. When I arrived, Lancer was finishing a client’s hair, so I had to wait a few minutes. One of the other stylists, Rusty, greeted me warmly and was very friendly and charming. I instantly felt welcomed, which is more than I can say for other salons.

When it came time for my hair, Lancer pulled up a chair facing me and we discussed what I was looking for BEFORE he even touched a hair on my head. He knew exactly what I was referring to, how to work with my hair type, and never made me feel ashamed for having thick, unruly hair (basically one giant cowlick.) He was friendly, funny, and turned my hair from a dull, dark, overdyed mess into sheer magic. I walked out of there with my natural color (which I hadn’t seen in YEARS) and perfect golden highlights.

I would recommend Salon Emerson to anyone who is looking for friendly, efficient stylists and great hair. Meeting with Lancer felt like meeting with an old friend; he made the experience that comfortable. The overall environment was relaxed and laid back, not like places where you feel like you have to dress up to go there. (from Yelp)

Home Remedies for Dry Scalp

When you have dry, itchy, scaly scalp it is commonly referred to as dandruff.

In many cases, this common affliction is linked to a a yeast-like fungus called malassezia. This type of fungus usually resides on the scalps of most people without bringing about such problems. Occasionally, however the fungus may get a little out of control, causing rapid cell production to bump older coatings of skin from the outer layer in the form of flakes. Doctors are unsure why only some people seem more susceptible to this process than others. Increased oil production is one theory, while stress and hair products may contribute to oily scalp buildup.

Besides dealing with the white flakes of dead skin in your hair and shoulders, when you come down with dandruff your head will itch and your scalp will appear scaly. Individuals may also experience either an excessively oily or dry scalp during these periods.

Instead of going straight to the dandruff shampoos, try these cheap, at home-remedies instead. They will target just the scalp condition while leaving the hair’s moisture content and condition alone.

  • Use Tea Tree Oil: It is an anti-fungal. Mix the oil with shampoo, scrub, and leave it on the affected area for 15 minutes, then rinse.
  • Scalp Massage with oil: This will help slough off the dead skin cells as well as allow more blood flow to the scalp.
  • Rosemary, Nettle, Lime juice, Extra Virgin Olive Oil: Try any of these individually, together or combined in a shampoo, lotion or conditioner.
  • Or consult with your stylist or dermatologist if the problem persists.

Coming Soon: Terminator Salvation

Terminator: Salvation is releasing May 21, 2009.
Directed by McG and starring Christian Bale and Bryce Dallas Howard.

The story begins after Skynet has destroyed much of humanity in a nuclear holocaust, a group of survivors led by John Connor (Bale) struggles to keep the machines from finishing the job.

BDH changes her haircolor often for her different dramatic film roles. Doesn’t she look good in all of them? Here you can really see how a different haircolor makes a different character impression on you while you are watching. Just like the right costume will inform a role, so does the hair. We wonder which haircolor will best inform her character in the Terminator movie. Can’t wait to find out!
