While there are many things to look forward to about winter, from the Holidays and spending time with family to ski trips and snowbound adventures, your skin and hair are definitely not looking forward to this cold season. Here are some tips on how to keep yourself looking great and healthy through the worst of cold snaps.
For dry skin, try switching up your moisturizer to one with an oil base. If your skin needs an extra boost of moisture in the winter, don’t hesitate to use a night time moisturizer, as they are usually oil-based. For dry hands and feet, try applying aquaphor or vaseline and then slipping on some cotton gloves or socks before bedtime. This can be done during the day for your feet as well.
Exfoliate!!! Always exfoliate one or two times a week to get rid of dead skin cells that build up on your skin – giving it a dull appearance. I absolutely love Purify Grapefruit Chamomile Salt Scrub from Trader Joe’s, which is especially great for your feet and elbows, although I use it on my legs and arms as well. For my face I use a cream cleanser which tends to be a little less abrasive, and I always use a washcloth. This will keep your face smooth and exfoliated without over-doing it.
As for your hair, try and save your blow dry an extra day. Wrapping your hair in a silk scarf before you go to sleep will keep your hair smooth and preserve your style one more day. Save your style and give you a few extra snoozes before you have to get up – win-win! Remember, in the winter, the less blow drying and flat ironing the better.
Last but not least try and turn down the water temp a bit on your showers. The
hot water depletes your skin and hair of moisture. So switch to warm if you can stand it. Stay warm out there!
