D’Arcy’s “Pink Dream” Photoshoot

pd6

On Super Bowl Sunday, when most people were cheering on their favorite football team, D’Arcy was styling hair in an exciting editorial photoshoot!!

The tour de force driving this opporunity is an emerging fashion designer named, Bo Choi. She received her MFA Fiber from the University of Washington and now teaches fashion design. Almost the entire fashion line in the shoot was constructed from plastic grocery bags. The central theme of the shoot was,”Pink Dream.” Bo was very detailed and organized with her vision and aided us by storyboarding some of the practice shoots for us.

Bo instructed the photographer, models, makeup artist and D’Arcy this shoot would be a representation of her first arrival in America from Korea as a young child. The two Asian models were to signify her experiences and were to evoke a simple, naive, young and modern version of the “young Bo Choi.” The other two Caucasian models were to be,”the mean girls on the playground,” and would evoke a prissy or evil sensibility.

Bo gave me some guidance on what she envisioned for the hair but left it up to me to use those ideas as inspiration for my own creativity. Here are some of my faves!

Local Theatre: Criminal Minds at VoxBox

Revenge is the central theme of Artattack Theatre Ensemble’s latest performance called Criminal Hearts by Jane Martin. The story follows two women, Ata and Bo, who join forces to get back at Ata’s “scum-bag lawyer husband” who cleaned out her apartment knowing that agrophoric Ata could not come after him. The Seattle Times described the play as a “biting comedy” and applauds the mini-twists and clever retorts in the story. Criminal Hearts is playing now through August 16th at the VoxBox theatre on 12th Ave and Pike St. The play stars Andrea Nelson and Devin Rodger.

Hair Art at the Seattle Erotic Arts Festival

Two years ago, I assisted a local artist by the name “Artana”, in a photo shoot, as lead stylist. It was hectic. The shoot was part of a series Artana has been working on- a “set of tarot cards”. Artana’s vision of the “Devil” card of the deck, with Midori (a writer and an artist herself), at the center, is on display at SEAF this year, as I learned Thursday night at the VIP opening while volunteering at the door.

As to the nature of the content, I will not be posting the result here, but if you have time and are of legal age, go to SEAF and see some amazing art, including some great performing artists!
