When coloring your hair, you don’t always have to be limited to your basic brown, blond and red. More and more people and celebrities are incorporating wild colors into their hair for a more daring edgy look. You can do this with a few colored highlights, or go all the way and do a complete color revamp (Think Rhianna’s new bright red do). Pacific Northwest Ballet is back with a new medley of Director’s Choice performances including sets from West Side Story, Petit Mort, Mopey, The Seasons. This looks like an extremely interesting show and is garnering a lot of positive press like this article from the Seattle Times. The show runs from November 5th to November 15th and more information and tickets are available on the PNB site.

In honor of the Halloween season, the Seattle Symphony is doing special live performances of the Hitchcock classic Psycho. See the movie on the big screen at Benaroya Hall while Seattle Symphony will provide the live sound track. This is sure to be a blast and a great start to any night of Halloween festivities! We can’t overstate how excited we are for Where The Wild Things Are which is coming out this Friday in theaters everywhere. An awesome soundtrack, a classic story, Spike Jonze’s directing. With overall positive early reviews coming in from RottenTomatoes.com, we will be standing in line on Friday.

Seattle’s highly regarded ballet company, Pacific Northwest Ballet, is bringing to life one of history’s greatest love stories with performances of the timeless Romeo and Juliet. The Seattle Times describes the new twist on an old classic as “Remarkable work…like no ‘Romeo and Juliet’ ballet you’ve seen before: It’s intricate, often achingly beautiful, and never simply pretty.”

Performances are being put on from September 24th through October 4th and tickets are going fast so book your spot now!

Imagine you are driving down the street, you stop at a light. One moment you are staring at the red globe waiting for your turn to go and the next your vision is overcome with a wall of white light. This is how the epic and fascinating Blindness by Jose Saramago begins. Quickly the new symptom spreads through the population, infecting young and old, healthy and sick, with immediate and all-encompassing blindness. Jose Saramago’s book is a strangely believable and enthralling portrayal of life in a society coping with this new aliment and the topsy-turvy world that results. Jose Saramago received the Nobel Prize in literature in 1998 and this novel is a great accessible book if you looking to begin exploring his work. Next time you come in to the salon to get your hair colored, we recommend bringing a copy of this great read.

Last year, the book was made in a major motion picture. While it did a poor job of translating the subtleties of character and behavior into film, it is an worthy film to watch in its own right. We recommend reading the far more rewarding book first however! Here is the trailer below:
