A trend of late is sporting bright red in your hair. With Rihanna gracing the covers of both Vogue and Rolling Stone with her red hair, many have gone to add a bit of red to their own hair. Below are a few people on the hill who have a dash of red themselves: Alex Garcia, Edwin Ross, and myself, Franz Falkowski.

There are many different ways to achieve a true red. Some haircolor lines will have a bright red color which you can find in both permanent and deposit-only. Permanent hair color is something we all know very well, but deposit-only cannot bring hair lighter or remove existing color. Deposit-only will also last for only 4-8 weeks. It is a great choice for those who only want to add tone, or want something that won’t be fully permanent.

Another option is semi-permanent colors or “stains”. These colors will fade overtime if proper care is not taken, but they are a great choice for those who want a bright, noticeable color. These are great colors, but can be difficult to remove if you suddenly change your mind.

After you’ve colored your hair. Be sure to grab a great color safe, salon quality shampoo. I recommend using the Alterna Caviar Moisture Shampoo & Conditioners. They will supply your hair with moisture and nourishment that it needs to stay healthy and hold color. I would also wash your hair with cooler water, your hair will hold the color longer.
