Now that October is upon us, all the best horror and thriller movies get released in anticipation of Halloween. Releasing this week is Case 39 starring Renee Zelweger, Ian McShane, Bradley Cooper and Jodelle Ferland. The story follows Zelweger’s character, Emily, an overloaded social worker who is assigned to monitor the domestic abuse case of Lily (Jodelle.) Soon, Emily is in charge of Lily’s care and comes to realize that there is more to taking care of this young girl than bedtime stories and snack time. Jodelle is a young 15 yr. old actress with tons of tv and film experience. She has starred in Stephen King’s Kingdom Hospital, the films Silent Hill and Twilight’s Eclipse.
Jodelle’s hair is absolutely gorgeous yet simple. If you have hair that is below the shoulders, you can create a similar wavy style to hers with the right products. Jodelle has finer hair and if you do too we recommend applying Motion Lotion Curl Enhancer by Kevin Murphy after the shower on hair that is 60% dry. If you have thicker, curly hair we recommend applying Hydrating Styling Cream to add additional moisture and shine. Braid the hair in 2 pigtails and allow to dry. (Make sure to keep the braid loose in order to avoid creating frizz or excessively tight wave.) Once dry, undo the braid carefully and spray with Kevin Murphy’s Session Spray lightly and scrunch. Toss your head up and down and your hair is casually styled and ready for a day of shopping, lunch with the ladies or an afternoon meeting. These two products are wonderful because they both protect the hair with built in UV filters and suncreen to protect your hair from the drying factors of the sun. Remember, just because it is getting chillier does not mean the sun is any less damaging!

As the summer draws to a close, we look back at some of the events over the past season. Namely, all of the joyous weddings that occurred from June to September. From backyard ceremonies to elaborate ballroom receptions, the main focus is on the bride and groom on their big day. Here we provide some tips for both on how to organize for such a large occasion!
Brides:Â A good thing to do first is to figure out what your budget is. Bridal hairstyles can range from $85-$110, depending on the length of the hair and the style desired (does it need to be flat ironed or curled, etc?) We recommend receiving a light trim to your haircut 1-2 weeks beforehand to remove any split ends. In addition, if you will be attempting any color services it is good to receive them 2 weeks ahead of time in case the color needs adjustment.
Some brides choose to utilize a paid practice session ($40 an hour) in order to eliminate any anxiety about the style before the ceremony. We try out the style, take pictures and troubleshoot any problems and then take the hair down and wash it before you leave. If you have your veil or any hair jewelry beforehand, the practice session is the perfect time to figure out how they will be planned into the overall style.
The important thing to do before consulting a stylist for your wedding hair is to find lots of pictures of hair that excites you. You can even bring in pictures of hair you absolutely do not like as this will aid your stylist to better hone what your aesthetic is. Do you want height? Do you want all of your hair up, half down or all down? What are some adjectives you would use to describe what you want your hair to look like (soft, romantic, wavy, sleek, shiny, etc.)? All of these elements will better assist you to becoming happy with your formal style!

Make your haircut appointment for 2 weeks beforehand and then book a quick “line up” for the day before or day of. A “line up” would be where only the edges around the ears and nape are trimmed with clippers. Many things about this time of year can make your hair dull. Worry not, our stylists have plenty of ideas to keep your hair shiny, healthy and full of body. We offer deep conditioning services to go with your new haircut or spoil yourself and come in just for a treatment and a blow dry.
For those of you who still haven’t tried the Moroccan Oil line, you are missing out. My favorite is the Moroccan Oil Intense Hydrating Mask. It works wonders. Take it from me, someone who is in the process of going from dark hair to blonde. Wash, towel dry, apply the mask and cover with a plastic cap and sit under the drier for 20 minutes. If you are doing this at home, simply wrap a warm, damp towel over the plastic cap to keep in the heat and moisture. Rinse and style as usual, adding a few sprays of the Moroccan Oil Glimmer Shine Spray to finish. The Glimmer Shine also contains UV filters that will protect the hair all day. It’s great for those who enjoy winter sports or just like to be outdoors.
