Yelptastic!

yelp

We’ve gotten some great reviews on Yelp and wanted to share with you some of our favorites!

SP says: “Lancer is the best stylist and colorist I have ever had. After so many times at the prior salon I went to patiently explaining how ‘really, please, no stripeys and please, really, I mean it when I say get the greys” well my hair color looks the best it has probably ever. It actually makes me so happy to go there because I love how I look afterwards and how many compliments I get. He got the color AND the cut right, and people say I “look so great what have you done differently?!?” if they haven’t seen me in a few years or they say “Oh I LOVE your new cut!!” if they see me more often than that.”

Jennifer says: “Ellen is the greatest! I followed Ellen to Emerson Salon from her old salon. She understands hair and what would make each client look amazing. I tell everyone about her and would recommend her to anyone looking for a stylish. If you are just looking for a haircut, you are going to miss out on her true talent.”

Amanda says: “emily rules!!! a friend of ours owns the salon and recommended emily, and i was extremely happy with the outcome. i have straight, but thick asian hair (being that i am asian), and emily was not freaked out about cutting my hair. i’m not sure why, but most people are in awe of my hair (which is bad because it means they don’t cut hair like mine very much) or totally scared of it (which is also bad). emily actually said asian hair is really easy to cut, and she certainly had no problems. she saw all the flaws of my previous stylist(s) and fixed them. she gave me exactly what i wanted, which has always been a problem when i get my hair cut. it’s been a couple weeks since i cut my hair with her, and i am still in love. i’m sad that i am only here ’til august, otherwise emily will have to be my stylist forever!!!”

Brent says: “All I can say is A+ for ANDREA!!! I am amazed by how well I am treated at this salon. Always a hello and would you like something to drink. Very professional staff. I really enjoy every visit. Not to forget Peter Duerr the best man with scissors I know. I’m gonna miss you a lot. Everyone at Emerson Salon ROCKS!”

Maggie says: “Emily is the reason I go to Emerson Salon. She is a trained, experienced professional who can do the hair of a rockstar, a rockette, or even a rock. She’s done both my husband’s and my hair for about six years – she has an expertise in color that is unmatched and does miracles no matter what your age. I highly recommend Emily in particular and Emerson Salon as a professional business and supporter of Capitol Hill endeavors.”

Thanks everyone for the kind words! You are why we do this business. Loved your experience at Emerson Salon too? Head on over to our Yelp page to share your own thoughts.

Peter just received a great new review on our Yelp profile:

“Soooo happy.

Okay, here’s the thing. I’ve got pretty great hair, and I know what to do with it. Yeah, there’re those days when I can’t be bothered to care that if I’ve let it be curly it shouldn’t be in a ponytail, but for the most part, I’ve got good hair.

My visit to Emerson Salon (with the fantastic to spend 45 minutes with Peter!) was the first time I’ve seen someone new for my hair in at least four years. Possibly six, I can’t quite remember. It’s not like I was dissatisfied with my old girl, but my mind has decided that while driving to Bellevue is fine for the mall, the same does not go for my hair. (Plus she’s not there on Wednesday or Thursday, the two most convenient days of the week for me…)

Coming here and seeing Peter was a great experience. It felt like he got everything I was saying even when I wasn’t sure what I was saying, and he didn’t try and give me any of the BS “you MUST come in 6 weeks if you’re growing it out” or “your hair will fall right out, all over the floor, if you don’t buy this product. and this one. oh, and the one here.” That’s so refreshing! I don’t need the hard sell on products that probably won’t make much difference (or that I just plain wouldn’t use anyway) and I’ll come in when my hair feels yucky, thank you very much!

But yeah, I didn’t get anything fancy done, just a desperately needed trim and lightening up of the layers, but it feels great. Everything about the place was great from the three friendly women there when I walked in (ladies, you know sometimes that can be very different in places like this!), to the $40 (plus tip) that I happily paid as I left.

I can’t wait to go back and try other services!”Brynne

Emerson Salon Rocking the Reviews

yelp

Two great new reviews on our Yelp page. Check them out below and all of our reviews on our Yelp profile:

“”I help people love their hair again” — a side explanation from the fantastic Peter, who accomplished that very task for my latest haircut. I came in with only a vague idea of what I wanted, but with very firm stances on what I DIDN’T want. Peter was able to explain to me why my previous cut wasn’t for me, and what he’d do differently to give me bangs that didn’t make me cry every time I looked into the mirror.

Historically when I got optimistic and hopeful and requested straight bangs from my stylist, I ended up walking away disappointed. Given that track record, I now say this without any sort of exaggeration: within the last decade, Peter has been the only one to give me straight bangs that actually look GOOD on me. Sainthood nomination right there, imo. ALSO, if that wasn’t already enough, he mentioned that he also gives free bang maintenance trims between cuts! I’ve never had another stylist/salon offer me that before, so that level of dedication means a lot to me. I also ended up with very lovely face-framing layers, and he didn’t cut off more than we agreed upon.

Sidenote on my mother’s behalf, who had her hair cut by D’Arcy: she was extremely happy with the layers D’Arcy gave her. Usually I hear my mother say, “They didn’t give me enough layers, sigh…” after past haircuts, but this time she was without complaint! I’ve never heard her chat so much with a hairstylist as she did with D’Arcy that day; Emerson definitely gets a +1 for the sheer friendliness of their stylists.

Other things I loved about the whole experience at Emerson…
1) They were very understanding when I called to let them know I was running late, and rescheduled me without hassle.
2) They weren’t pushy with product sales, which is good, because I probably would’ve just ended up dumping the moroccan oil on the ground and rolling around in it. Deliiicious stuff.
3) They made us feel welcomed, starting with warm greetings and ending with personal farewells.

It’s very obvious that they love what they do, and that sort of enthusiasm translates into a service that I have no hesitation in recommending!”Angela

“Emerson is great! Parking can be a little tricky, it took me about 10 minutes of driving around to find a spot, but if it hadn’t been a Sunday, that probably wouldn’t have been an issue.

The style of the shop is great–old fashioned, reminds me of an old saloon or something!! The receptionist was very nice, and they even called me the day before to confirm my appointment, which I thought was very professional.

If you’re nervous about coming here for the first time, I would recommend checking the reviews and picking a stylist that seems to get consistently good reviews. I had Peter and he is AMAZING!! I have never laughed out loud so much during a HAIRCUT, plus, he actually LISTENED to me and cut my hair the way I want it!!! I have had so many bad experiences where stylists (all women) just plain refuse to cut my hair the way I ask, and one time she even did exactly what I told her NOT to do!!! You don’t have to worry about that with Peter. I also have long, thick, rebellious, quasi-curly hair, and he took my hair type into account when cutting it, which is something most stylists also fail to do. I will only get my hair cut at Emerson by Peter as long as he stays there!!

And last, but CERTAINLY not least, the price is quite reasonable, especially given Emerson’s proximity to downtown!! I used to get mediocre haircuts out in the suburbs for the exact same price.

I am very satisfied, my search for a good salon and stylist is finally over!!”Erin

Another great review for our stylist Peter. Check out this review and all of our reviews on our Yelp profile.

“So this review is long overdue, but i went to Emerson Salon for a cut and color about a month ago and had an awesome experience. I went on a Friday night and was worried that i would be rushed through my appointment, but that was hardly the case. my stylist was peter (the guy with the cool mustache) and he was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. i had a picture of the color i wanted and it came out better than i expected! i also asked for a cut that would lighten my hair without chopping it all off so he simply added some layers and framing pieces and also used this amazing Moroccan oil (i ended up buying some-it made my hair so soft!).

not only am i new to the seattle area, but i am new to going to salons for haircuts (my mom was a hairdresser and has cut my hair my entire life!) and i was kinda terrified to be leaving my hair in the hands of a stranger-but everyone from the receptionist i made the appointment with to the stylists that were there that night made me feel welcome in an non-intimidating and comfortable environment (and even walked me through what he was doing since i had never even had my hair washed at a salon!) i can’t wait to go back and try out a bolder cut now that i know this is a salon i can trust!”

We just got another great review for our stylist Peter, read this and all of our reviews on our Yelp profile.

“After looking at a few web sites, I found a haircut that was amazing! I instantly found out who the stylist was and made my appointment.

I had a bit of difficulty finding the salon, mainly because I am still new to the Seattle area. Even though I was a little late, they were very accommodating. The amazing stylist that cut my hair was Peter and I highly recommend him. He listened to exactly my wants, but also provided professional suggestions. He worked with my hair texture and my desire to get my hair into one length (it was an asymmetrical cut before and I am growing my hair out).

The design of the location is fantastic. Not overly down yet visually intriguing. Also, I love the product he recommended for my hair, the Morocan Oil. love it! love love love it! And the price for the cut is very reasonable. If anything, more than reasonable. My current picture with the Vivre sa Vie hair is courtesy of Peter.

Thank you Peter!”

Another great review for Peter posted on Yelp. Read it and all of our reviews on our profile here. Thanks Anthony!

“I’ve been meaning to try this place for a while and when I finally made it in today, I had a really great experience. Peter was really friendly and cool. Even better, he really listened to me and gave me a great cut. I’m growing my hair out and unlike previous experiences I’ve had at other places, he just trimmed where appropriate and didn’t go crazy with cutting all over.

Great relaxed and cozy vibe inside the place too. Oh, and I bought some product that I really liked too. (No hard sell!) Since my previous stylist left last summer, I’ve been wondering where to go. Glad to have found Peter at Emerson, I’ll definitely be back!”

Strawberry Blond Parisienne Bob

Hello Emerson Salon followers, Peter here.

I wanted to share one of my favorite recent cut-and-colors. My client started out with a chin length graduated bob and her color was an all natural dark red-brown. After browsing European hair mags, she saw a shorter variation of her bob that she thought looked great.

By the way, technically the definition of a “bob” is any haircut above the shoulders so many cuts that would otherwise be thought of as short layered cuts are by definition “bobs”. However, I think the soft beveled shape sets bobs apart from your standard shorter layered cuts and are a great option for many women!

Since, my client was not a heavy user of makeup, aside from some black eyeliner and lip color, we decided to add the effect of intense color with her hair. To make the change more dramatic, we colored all over with a light level 8 strawberry blonde to compliment her warm eye color and subtle olive skin tone.

She had been wearing her chin length bob blown under her chin and we thought that bringing the length up and out of her face was a great way of show casing her natural beauty. Because the cut has graduated layers throughout it will style beautifully behind or over the ears. Like most of us, my client is “hairstyle challenged” meaning she doesn’t have the easiest time with brush and blow dryer. I took this into consideration when I cut her hair and guided her through the styling process showing her that she could simply “flat wrap” the style with a paddle brush. Flat wrapping is a technique that anyone can master and all it requires is a paddle brush and blow dryer. No clipping and sectioning, no special training aside from the instruction you get from me during your visit if your cut is in fact a flat wrappable style!

For styling products we used Alterna Caviar anti-aging non-aerosol mousse, applied to wet hair and blown dry with the flat wrap technique, all of this brushing brought out maximum shine and to seal in that shine we followed up with Alterna’s Hemp Spray Shine. Color maintenance is 6 to 8 weeks depending on client preference and the same applies to the cut. Some people can take a style growing out for a longer time than others, you decide.

Thanks for checking in, keep a look out for more style blogs from me, Peter Duerr.

Bio:
Peter Duerr is the newest addition to the Emerson Salon crew. He moved to Seattle from the Minneapolis/St. Paul area last October with his two puppies, Patches (toy Australian Shepard) and Zuffa (Rottweiler), two kitties Squeak (boy) and Ant (girl), and last, but not least, Lauren (human, female).

Peter’s unique style is driven by his varied career before getting into hair which included pet care and motorcycle repair. Up late one night, Peter saw an advert for the Motorcycle Mechanics Institute which exclaimed “You can be a motorcycle technician!” Peter agreed, packed his car and moved to Phoenix, AZ where he spent the next 3 years earning a factory certification from Harley Davidson, Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki. Peter says, “I am confident that I am the ONLY Harley certified hair stylist in the city of Seattle!”

In 1998, Peter acted on the advice of his stylist/friend to go to school for hair and attended the flagship Aveda Institute in Minneapolis where he completed the cosmetology program with perfect attendance and record breaking goal achievement. This training was instrumental in preparing Peter for the real world of beauty. Peter says that his decision to get into hair “was the smartest decision that I have made”, and he thinks that nurturing others and helping them find their own beauty has been rewarding beyond his wildest dreams.

Peter’s goal is to satisfy his customers on as many levels as possible. He does so by providing structurally solid cuts which are his specialty. Peter loves geometric shapes, which he sees everywhere in nature and make for some of the best hairstyles. He also tries to simplify the styling that a haircut requires by making a cut user friendly. Peter sums it up well with his motto…keep it simple!
