When coming to a decision on a hue of hair that suits your style and coloring, remember the following when you choose any red hue:
-Red is the largest color molecule and cannot, without sufficient opening of the cuticle layer of the hair, penetrate the hair shaft.
-Sometimes hair needs to be pre-lightened in order for the exact shade of red to show up on your particular hair type.
-Warm skin tones do well with a blue based red to balance out the yellows and oranges in their skin.
-Cool skin tones do well with warm or neutral based reds to balance out the pinks and ivory in their skin.
-Avoid shampooing until 3 days after your color service
(you may rinse or condition but do not emulsify or lather so the red can settle into the hair’s structure.)
-Buy appropriate color safe shampoo and conditioner
(like Kevin Murphy’s Luxury or Angel lines.)
-Avoid using high heat blow dryers or flat irons because high heat fades color.
-Use a color shield protectant like Alterna’s Caviar Repair Spray with Color Hold when it is dry to protect your hair’s color from the sun.
-Ask your stylist to book a semi or demi permanent red gloss 3 weeks after your initial service to keep it looking intense, vibrant, and true to tone.
