Local Theatre: Criminal Minds at VoxBox

Revenge is the central theme of Artattack Theatre Ensemble‘s latest performance called Criminal Hearts by Jane Martin. The story follows two women, Ata and Bo, who join forces to get back at Ata’s “scum-bag lawyer husband” who cleaned out her apartment knowing that agrophoric Ata could not come after him. The Seattle Times described the play as a “biting comedy” and applauds the mini-twists and clever retorts in the story. Criminal Hearts is playing now through August 16th at the VoxBox theatre on 12th Ave and Pike St. The play stars Andrea Nelson and Devin Rodger.

Greek Tragedy Meets Seattle

Go see the Greek Classic: MEDEA

After being left by her husband, Jason, for another woman, Medea feels her vows have been betrayed. Her revenge is met with apathy and acceptance from the chorus until it is too late…
It is this underlying theme of revenge that has given the play it’s timeless, seductive appeal. It is a revenge fantasy, and like the Chorus, we watch Medea with a mixture of horror and excitement as her fantasy becomes a reality. What we see is not a story of female liberation, but a war between the sexes in which all emerge scarred; no one is the hero, no one is the victim.
We have, in Medea, an opportunity to examine how easily passion can manifest into rage; the fine line we walk between greatness and pride. For these reasons, Theatre Machine stages this classic Greek tragedy and asks the audience to decide for themselves:

Is Medea a feminist heroine or the complete antithesis of?

Meet Our Stylists: D’Arcy Harrison

Get To Know D’Arcy

  • Favorite Movies – I love horror and zombie movies. Some of my favorites are from the 70′s and early 80′s. To name them: Suspiria by Dario Argento, The Fog the original directed by John Carpenter, Dawn of the Dead (original and remake by George A. Romero), Resident Evil, House of a Thousand Corpses by Rob Zombie, Amityville Horror the original, and Looker with Albert Finney and Susan Dey.
  • Favorite Music – Bjork, Tori Amos, Madonna, B-52′s, the Verve, the early Beatles, the Sundays, Cher, Beyonce, Bat for Lashes, M.I.A., Britney, Christina Aguilera, Pink, Leona Lewis, Johnny Cash, Banjo /Bluegrass, Beastie Boys, Glorious Melle Mel and the Furious Five, Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Janet Jackson,Kelly Clarkson, Wicked, Little Shop of Horrors, Garbage, Pat Benatar, Bob Marley’s “Catch a Fire” album, Foxy Brown, Blondie, Gwen Stefani, Tegan & Sara
  • Favorite Restaurant – I love Piecora’s pizza. It is casual and simple. No snobs here. I used to live next door and no pizza in town compares.
  • Where you can find me on a Friday night – Right now I am doing hair until 8pm! And then I would either head home, snuggle in with watching the Ghost Whisperer, dinner warming in the oven with my cat Sassy meowing for her kibble,…. OR! headed over to friends’ house up on Capitol Hill for a snack, a drink and maybe some Wii. Very exciting!
  • What I love most about being a stylist – I love doing hair because I think connections with people are very important for the soul and every time I make someone feel good after being in my chair I feel a little lift. Whether my clients need a haircut or a genune listening ear they know they can count on me for both. My dream is to build a rapport with my clients that is unique, because I truly absorb their wishes, ideas, concerns and needs. My technical skills are based in precision so I have the ability to translate my clients’ consultation into an attractive and practical cut designed just for them and their features. I have an opportunity to be creative and methodical in my job and executing a well planned hair service is highly satsfying to me. I think humor is important, bringing a little levity to the sometimes serious or stressful experience getting a haircut/hair color. Bottom line: I love it when a client trusts in me and leaves with a big smile on his or her face.
  • Favorite Hairstyle – I love natural blonds with sun kissed ends where there hair is in brushed out waves with high shine, parted in the middle, and maybe some editorial like punk hair color pieces spewing out of the crown. Think Vogue haute couture spread. I love anything that contrasts conservative with “out there”.
  • Favorite Hair Product – Easy Rider Kevin Murphy: Controls frizz/flyaways, give control to a blow out, good when flat ironing blunt bangs. It also works wonders for men’s curly/gray hair for style control.
  • Favorite Coffeeshop – I’ve been known to hit up Cafe Press on 12th or Bauhaus on Pine. I love the cozy decors.
