New Hair Trends for Guys in the New Year

The fauxhawk hasn’t lost it’s charm yet guys. This haircut is still going strong with new variations to keep it fresh. The longer version is great for guys with thick hair and a bit of wave to it. Add a few warm highlights to it to show off the texture and keep it fit for a winter look.

Fringe for guys is back! All kinds of different lengths and textures are being seen on the runways. Long or short, strong or textured. It can be clean cut or messy and fun.

My personal favorite, the side part, is make a comeback as well. This look is easy and can be worn so many different ways. Sleek with gel, a little roughed up with a styling clay of some sort, I recommend Kevin Murphy Gritty Business, and even short and with a less defined part which can be styled with a putty like Alterna’s Sculpting Putty.

Fall Hair Trends: Men’s Medium Length Hair

We love this haircut that was recently featured on MopShots and think its an ideal style to rock for the fall season. What do you think?

Here is what MopShots had to say: “This cut is so versatile…It’s presented in a very hip “Mrs. Robinson” way, but if slicked back off Jay’s face, he could be an English Lit undergrad at Columbia circa 1969. I love the mod suggestion with corporate wearability that this cut works out.”

Fall Hair Trends: Short Dark Cuts

Check out this amazing Fall cut that they featured on MopShots. We love it! What fall hair trends have you been seeing walking the streets of Capitol Hill?

MopShot says: “This haircut kills me; it’s so amazing. The key is that Kendall has such amazing hair to begin with–she really cannot go wrong. Her hair is super thick, which gives this cut a perfect base. The rusty red color is so spot on too. Kudos to colorist and stylist!”

Hair Trends For 2010

Celebrity hair stylist Alyn Topper recently did an interview with Beauty Pro Division blog and talked about what he’s seeing for 2010:

“I feel as if all the trends are progressing out of Berlin and what I see is a movement into the late seventies and early eighties. As the trend trickles down to mainstream you will see layered hair and rounder shapes. The late seventies look- The hair will be flatter at the scalp and become fuller on the ends. A great example was Kate Moss on the cover of W for the fall fashion issue. Also you will see variations of this look in the new SATC movie coming out. Early eighties was a lot of undercutting and disconnecting which we are already seeing in the states examples are being worn by the likes of Pink and Rihanna.”

Fall Hair Trends: The Modern Flip

TotalBeauty.com recently ran an article on the top trends from the Fall fashion shows. One trend that caught our eye was this modern twist on the classic Flip hairstyle. The models weren’t the only ones bringing back the flip hairstyle, Jessica Simpson and Katie Holmes have tried their own take on the flip as well. What do you think? Should the flip make a comeback?

Hair Trends Fall 2009: Side Ponytails

Another hair trend this fall is the Side Ponytails for Longer Hair:

Here are 2 versions of the side ponytail. On the left, is Brittany Snow with a loose, wavy side ponytail with side bang and curly tendrils.

A couple good products for this do: Alterna Caviar Smoothing Lotion and Rapid Repair Spray.

  • Towel dry, then rough blow-dry before applying the smoothing lotion from mid-shaft to the ends.
  • Round brush blow dry and then loosely curl the mid-shaft downwards. Brush out some of the waves loosely and then gather at the side of the head into a low ponytail.

The other picture is of the extreme version of the side pony which is higher on the side of the head with straight, sleek shine.

Some effective products for this do would be Fudge’s Hair Shaper and Kevin Murphy’s Bodyguard Lotion.

  • Apply Bodyguard to towel dry hair and blow dry completely straight.
  • Then, flat iron ends to be stick straight and smooth.
  • Then, gather into the higher side ponytail with the Hair Shaper to control flyaway’s and create a glassy finish.
  • Apply Bodyguard to the ends of ponytail and flat iron again.

Hair Trends Fall 2009: Dark Hair Color

This fall, shorter choppy layers, a heavy bang and darker hair color
are a few of the trends for the coming season.

Some people choose to go subtlety darker, but here, famous fashion model Ageyness Deyn has received an extreme color correction going darker on her usually bright blond hair that now make her tresses appear an opaque, cool toned black hue.

A couple products to help style Ageyness’ new do: Alterna Caviar Non-Aerosol Mousse and Shaping Balm.

  • After towel drying and rough blow-dry, apply Mousse from mid-shaft to ends.
  • Blow dry around the round of the head towards the face with a paddle brush.
  • Flat iron the ends and then apply the Shaping Balm to the bangs and ends. Blow dry from the back of the head roughly and spray with Alterna Caviar Working Spray.

****If you are looking to do a similar alteration to your hair color, consult an Emerson stylist for pricing, timing, product recommendations and maintenance suggestions for optimum results****
